Protective Coating
Bronze is an extremely durable material. A bronze plaque will remain intact indefinitely.
However, the surface will fade and become dull in appearance if not protected.
Phoenix Foundry finish all plaques with a protective coating to ensure the plaque maintains it's visual
appeal.
Our coating is a Two Pack Thermosetting Acrylic clear paint, spray applied in a special purpose paint booth.
The process is identical to that used on motor vehicles. In fact the protective paint used at Phoenix
Foundry is also used on superior motor cars such as BMW's.
> Testing
A number of properties affect the durability of the protective coating. These include adhesion to
the base surface, resistance to ultra violet light and atmospheric conditions. Both Phoenix Foundry
and our paint supplier conduct tests to assist us in arriving at the best possible paint and
application procedures to ensure the plaques will maintain the optimum appearance in all
conditions.
> Damage to Protective Coating
Damage to the protective coating can occur in the following ways:
- Industrial fall out may chemically attack the paint film;
- Over a period of time, accumulated dirt and airborne pollutants will combine with normal
weathering and may dull or bleach the coating;
- Natural substances such as bird droppings, insect stains and tree saps may mark or etch the film;
- Water such as bore water containing salt or other minerals may cause the coating to fade.
