There are 3 main reasons why bronze is better

...to use for memorial and cremation plaques, commemorative plaques, house or business signs, cast metal lettering and numbering, and commemorative products such as honour rolls and coats of arms.

1 Bronze offers excellent value for money long-term

The physical and design features of all bronze products will remain intact indefinitely. Bronze has a very appealing ‘golden’ colour post-casting, is extremely durable, and maintains an excellent standard of finish for generations. Casting in bronze achieves a look and gives a level of sustainability to a memorial plaque, sign or commemorative product that you cannot achieve with any other metal. The value for money in the long-term when you use bronze for your product far outweighs that of products made from aluminium, glass, brass or wood. If you don’t use bronze, you will end up paying more for your product because you will have to either replace the whole thing, or restore parts of it at some stage.

Bronze has a density of 8300kg/m3 and is cast in sand moulds at temperatures of around 1200oC. There are two grades of bronze used by Phoenix Foundry: LG2 Gunmetal and SB1 Silicon. LG2 Gunmetal is an alloy of 85% Copper with, Tin, Lead and Zinc and is used for creating all standard plaques and signs. SB1 Silicon is an alloy of 85% Copper with Zinc, Silicon, Iron and Manganese and is used for creating crests and other detailed, multi-component memorials.

2 Bronze has a sophisticated, high-end finish and is very easy to maintain

Your bronze plaque, sign, commemorative product or cast metal lettering should not require major regular maintenance of any type. The ability of bronze to form a fine skin of patina when it interacts with the environment means that it is also virtually impervious to weather and pollution. In addition, all Phoenix products are finished with a clear protective surface coating, which means that graffiti or the like (should it appear) can simply be wiped off without affecting the product. There will be NO NEED for polishing your plaque or sign (like you have to do with stainless steel or aluminium), cleaning your product (like you have to do with glass), or touching up your product because of wear and tear, chipping and weather damage (like you may need to do with wooden signage). All bronze products maintain an excellent standard of finish for generations.

3 Bronze is easy to install and you can fix bronze products to a wide variety of surfaces

All Phoenix Foundry’s cast bronze plaques, signs, commemorative products and cast metal lettering are easy to install or fix to any surface that you nominate when placing your order. Read more here. In addition to its clear protective surface coating, you can also rest assured that your bronze plaque or product will be safe even in the most exposed site. All Phoenix bronze products are installed using cast-on, vandal resistant fittings. Having no visible fixings deters attempts at removal.

When designing and organising your memorial plaques, commemorative plaques, house or business signage and commemorative products, an important consideration should of course be the type of material you use.  You will need something that is excellent value for money, durable, low-maintenance and something that continues to look good long-term. That’s why you should always consider using bronze.

Historically, bronze was always used to make tools, weapons and armor because bronze was harder and more durable than other materials available at the time such as stone and copper… and this still applies today when compared to other plaque and signage materials such as wood, stainless steel or glass.

As time has gone on and many more materials have become available for use in memorial products and signage, however bronze has remained the top choice for many people because of its appealing colour, durability and value for money.

The questions to ask yourself when you’re looking to organise, design and purchase a memorial plaque or a commemorative plaque or a sign for your home or business are… do I need something that is going to last and look good for the long-term? Yes. And, do I want to spend time having to upkeep my sign or plaque? No.  Then you should always use bronze!
